AMEBIX To Release 'Redux' EP This Month
June 13, 2010Legendary U.K. crust punks AMEBIX will release a new three-song EP, "Redux", on June 28 via Profane Existence Records. The CD, which will contain live and re-recorded versions of several of the band's classics — including "Winter", "Chain Reaction" and "Arise" — was remixed by current AMEBIX drummer Roy Mayorga (NAUSEA, CRISIS, SOULFLY, STONE SOUR).
"Redux" will be available on CD, 12" LP and digitally. The vinyl edition will include a free download card, which will feature a live version of "Progress?" as a bonus track.
AMEBIX is slowly but surely working towards the release of a brand-new album, which promises to both decimate the believers and convert the uninitiated.
Commented frontman Rob "The Baron" Miller: "AMEBIX ended a series of shows and tours in 2009 by spending time in Derbyshire to record tracks for a new album. So far we have six songs recorded, and Stig [guitar, backing vocals] and I have been writing independently so that when we all get a chance to meet again we should be able to complete the album material quite quickly.
"The new songs see AMEBIX as a more mature vehicle, with a lyrical and musical diversity that we are very happy with.
"It has been important for us to continue to explore musically rather than getting stuck in our own tracks. I think initially we are concerned about whether or not we would be able to write material that we would be happy with, but the songs so far are stronger than anything we have done in the past without becoming overly technical, but remaining true to the ethos.
"Roy Mayorga is currently recording with STONE SOUR, after which they will be on the road for another year and a half, so our window of opportunity will occur when Roy is in Europe again and has time to spend in the studio with us. This means that we are all on high alert status; we may only have a week or so of notice when that window appears, so we'll need to get a studio, accommodation, flights etc and crack into it! It's exciting."
AMEBIX was formed in England during 1978 and is considered by many to have started the "crust punk" sub-genre. The band appeared on the first Crass Records "Bullshit Detector" compilation LP with a music style that was heavily influenced by MOTÖRHEAD, BLACK SABBATH, VENOM, and early KILLING JOKE. In 1985 AMEBIX met Jello Biafra of DEAD KENNEDYS and became the first UK signing to his label, Alternative Tentacles. In 1987, AMEBIX signed to Heavy Metal Records for the album "Monolith" (1987),which was reissued through Moshpit Tragedy Records as part of the label's sliding-scale download series.
In an early 2009 interview with Moshpit-Tragedy.com, Mayorga explained how he got involved with the project: "I was put in contact with Rob through a mutual friend. Her name is Alicia (Morgan, singer for 13 and longtime girlfriend of EYEHATEGOD frontman Mike Williams). We knew each other for years. She contacted me out of the blue and told me that Rob was looking for someone to drum in AMEBIX, but only for the new live video footage. They weren't planning on reforming, really, until after we got together... The chemistry between us all was very undeniable so we just decided from there on to take it a step forward."
